Chalcopyrite from
Druid Mine (New Victoria Mine; Arundell Mine), Ashburton, Teignbridge, Devon, England, UK

Locality type:Mine
Classification
Species:Chalcopyrite
Formula:CuFeS2
Comments:A sample collected from the dump in Nov, 2020 has chalcopyrite occurring primarily as thin strings within the softer black shale. The form is very poor but does show the typical scalloped fracture to differentiate it from the hackly pyrite with which it is associated. Dissolving in nitric acid and then neutralising with aqueous ammonia produces the distinctive royal blue solution and dark brown precipitate.
Quality for species:Poor for species, only of interest for locality collectors. (#)
Confirmation
Validity:Confirmed
Confirmation Methods:Wet Chemical
