Comments: | The Braen quarry in Haledon has been listed as a locality for canaphite ever since the original description was published (Peacor, et al, 1985) However, the original description was based on one specimen and all the available evidence indicates that the specimen was mislabeled. Questions about the mineral led Rouse, et al (1988) to determine the history of the original discovery, the only one in the region, from the original collectors. That discovery was at Great Notch, not the Braen quarry in Haledon. On Mindat's canaphite page the attribution to Haledon is based on the Handbook of Mineralogy. Oddly, the Handbook entry lists Rouse, et al (1988) among the references although those who included it do not seem to have read the text. | |
