The Christiana mine reaches down to the sea level and even a little beneath.

The shaft that served the mine had two loading docks, one at an elevation of 85Β m and one at 5Β m above sea level. The shaft itself was built at an elevation of 132.64Β m above sea level. According to company policy of the β€œCompagnie FranΓ§aise des Mines du Laurium” (C.F.M.L.) which sunk the shaft, this exact elevation is that of the axle of the main wheel of the shaft. This is also the reason locality designations like β€œChristiana 132” or β€œShaft 132” have become popular in the literature and among collectors. These designations are actually not correct, as the shaft was called β€œPuits Christiana” (in English: Shaft Christiana) by the C.F.M.L. without any numbers attached.

GrΓΆbner (2001) describes a wide variety of secondary minerals from a quartz-fluorite vein. Samouhos et al. (2024) report a find of excellent legrandite.

Description: The occurence of paradamite was questioned without any real evidence (see https://www.mindat.org/forum.php?read,105,184543,192510#msg-192510). The ID is now firmly established with Raman, SEM-WDS and SXRD. pale yellow masses that fill cavities in alveolar quartz. It can be confused with fluorite, which has a very similar luster and cleavage. With paradamite however the planes of cleavage never cross, which can be used to distinguish it from fluorite.
