Mica. The Painted Canyon Mine contains blue quartz, biotite, muscovite, perthite, and graphic pegmatite. There are four adits and several shallow pits into the hill face above the creek. The dump below the lowest adit closest to the creek bed, yields abundant specimens (at least when the source was written in the mid 1980's- A Guide to Fossicking in the Northern Territory) of coarsely fractured clear smoky quartz, colourless quartz, and rose quartz. At the adits higher on the hill, a bluish grey quartz can be found, some with dendrites of pyrolusite. Also found are good specimens of feldspar as large cleaved prisms, some being perthite. Muscovite is plentiful, and biotite less common.
Small pockets of samarskite is found in two shallow pits on the western side of the creek. Samarskite is a radioactive rare earth mineral.
To locate follow the same directions as that listed for the Benstead Mine Mindat locality. Painted Canyon is one kilometre further upstream (south) along the Eblana Creek. Lumps of epidote, clear quartz, and garnet sands are said to be found in the creek.
