A valley extending SSW from the vicinity of Mokelumne Hill (town) in secs. 24, 25, 26 & 35, T5N, R11E, MDM.

NOTE: The spelling for this feature on the topo map and the USGS GNIS database is "Chili Gulch." The spelling of "Chile Gulch" was entered into Mindat without reference.

Richest known placer mining section, extending for five miles in Calaveras County. Received name from Chileans who worked the gulch in 1848 and 1849, and the scene of the so-called Chilean War. Largest known quartz crystals recovered from mines (Green Mountain Mine and Rough Diamond Mine) on south side of gulch.
