A Cu-Mn claim and former surface and underground Mn mine located in the NE¼NE¼ sec. 10, T1N, R15E, about 1¾ miles NNE of Copper Hill ghost town, about 1 mile NNE of Black Peak, on private land. Discovered in 1885 and produced 1954. The Copper Trust group of claims was originally owned, along with the Magnet and Kino, by the Superior and Globe Copper Mining Co., which unsuccessfully explored for copper up to 1910. It was sold in the 1920's or 1930's, along with the Magnet and Keno, to F.A. Bennet, then resold in 1953 to F.A. Sitton, who still owned it in 1961.
Mineralization is an irregular ore body(ies) hosted in the Pioneer Formation (quartzite). The ore zone is 30.48 meters long, 15.24 meters wide, strikes N60E and dips NW. The best ore was formed by residual concentration and downward enrichment of manganese oxides and did not extend below a depth of about 20 feet from the surface. Ore control was the main productive vein along a contact between Pioneer Formation and diabase. It probably represents an old fault formed before the intrusion of diabase and reopened by slight displacement after the intrusion.
The shaft and crosscuts are driven in diabase, except for a short interval in Gila conglomerate at the shaft collar. No copper ore was found.
Workings include a vertical shaft 680 feet deep sunk in 1909 with crosscuts 520 and 233 feet long to the north and south respectively on the 650 level. Superior and Globe put down a 900 foot deep shaft while exploring for copper and silver. The manganese ore that was shipped was sorted from the material broken in the open pit, which was 30 feet (9.14 meters) by 8 feet (2.44 meters) by 8 feet (2.44 meters). Mn ore not amenable to concentration by flotation process due to iron oxide content. Some exploratory stripping of talus overburden had been done SW of the open cut.
