The Campo Formoso stratiform intrusive is part of the Jacurici Complex of Paleoproterozoic age and consists of a tabular body of ultramafic rocks about 40 km long and 100-1100 m wide. It hosts the most prominent chromite deposits of Brazil. At least seven chromitite layers, up to more than 10 m thick, have been discovered in the SW limb of the intrusion, and have been mined at several places.
