PhotosRosasite - Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

I think this is malachite with baryte from the Congo, anyone agree? Paul?

Hi Debbie

Difficult for a photo, but if I had to guess the specimen in toto I would have plumbed for Hemimorphite on either Rosasite or Malachite from Nevada or Mapimi. There appears to be Limonite like matrix associated.

But I am not familiar enough with Tsumeb.

Cheers

Keith

Im inclined to agree with malachite Debbie, though it depends on the lighting; also the barytes i have seen from Congo there are typically blockier, this resembles hemimorphite more to me. But that would be an unusual association though.

This is not baryte but rather hemimorphite.

This is not a Congo specimen.

Would like to see more of the matrix to match perhaps a locality.

Cheers.

Paul.

Thank you very much gentlemen :-)

I'm not familiar with hemimorphite at all. I checked my Tsumeb refs and malachite or rosasite are not associated with hemimorphite, it forms masses and small tabular crystals to a few mm and is quoted as very rare. I'm doubtful this is a Tsumeb specimen.

Definitely hemimorphite, Could be from Ojuela mine, Mapimi, Mexico.
