Macro Ring Light and Olympus OM-D EM-5 Mk II Making Me Crazy

I'm trying like crazy to figure out how to use my new macro ring flash with my Olympus camera. Every picture I take with the flash, through hundreds of combinations of settings, comes out black. I can just use it as a light source, no problem, but in flash mode I can't get a picture. The manual for the camera is useless on this issue, just dire warnings about incompatible flash units frying the circuitry (not an issue here!).

Can someone with one of these cameras share their settings with me? I've exhausted the menus, ISO and f-stop combinations, sync, etc. These cameras have literally hundreds of menu items and I'm sure I'm simply missing one of them. Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Scott

Scott, there's probably a problem with the timing of the flash. It's going off to soon or to late.
I used to use a flash with analogic pics and if I went over 1/60 a second, it turned black too.
Just look at how your camera is set.
