Mineral ShowsMaine Mineral Symposium this weekend, May 8-10

5th May 2009 18:04 UTCWoodrow Thompson

Mineral collectors in the Northeastern U.S. and neighboring Canada are invited to the 20th Maine Mineral Symposium, which is coming up this weekend in Augusta, Maine. The program is on our website at: http://www.maine.gov/doc/nrimc/mgs/explore/minerals/symposium.htm

Participants who haven't already registered may do so at the Senator Inn either Friday afternoon/evening or on Saturday morning. If you missed the recent Rochester Mineral Symposium, John Betts will be reprising his excellent talk on mineral discoveries in the New York City area. Mindat regular Alfredo Petrov will talk about the Mindat website as well as collecting in Bolivia. And we will have the usual talks on Maine and New Hampshire minerals including recent finds at Mt. Mica. Dealers, exhibits, and Sunday field trips round out the program. Hope to see you there!

Hi Gail,

We had a great meeting, thanks! I'll post a summary and some photos in a day or two, as soon as our committee catches up on lost sleep. We would also like to have feedback from others who were there, so we're not just tooting our own horns!

Cheers,

Woody Thompson

Hi Guys,

Was there any memorial given for Neil Wintringham given at the symposium?? Neil passed away this January and he was a long time participant in the Maine Symposium as well as a long time enthusiast of Maine mineralogy.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Yes, we mentioned that Neil Wintringham had passed away during the winter. Ron Kendig from Pennsylvania had acquired his collection and was offering a lot of Neil's New England material at the symposium. Many of us enjoyed the opportunity to acquire minerals that Neil collected, and he was very much in our thoughts. Thanks for asking!

Best,

Woody Thompson
