Identity HelpUnknown from Noria Mine, Mexico

15th Apr 2012 22:16 UTCPeter Hargis

This is leaf Silver with bluish Bornite from the Noria Mine, Zacatecas, Mexico... what I'm wondering about is a somewhat sharp crystal measuring 11 x 9 mm. I've attached some photos - any thoughts? Is it just where the Silver replaced another mineral or its just more defined...or?

I appreciate any help.

looks like bornite coated by covellite

I agree with Elegiusz - tarnished bornite.

Looking at some of the minerals listed for the district, I think you are right.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, it is Bornite. The pinkish metallic color is typical of fresh Bornite, which then tarnishes to bluish-purple and brassy hues.

Lefteris.
