Identity HelpWhat type of minirals would be this sand

23rd May 2013 00:26 UTCMinseeker

This is machine of hospitality uses and it is from 1941.

It is for resipiratory system with other accesories.

23rd May 2013 01:02 UTCMichael Hopkins

It looks like an early nebulizer. The sand in the hour glass is probably sediments from volcanic cinder cones. Lots of beeches have this red sand.

Without looking at it under magnification, it is hard to say what it is. Even worse than trying to ID a mineral from just a picture. Is there any info about who made the item, its name, model number, etc? You may be able to get info on the construction that way.

Hi,

I am looking for models of the doctor JULLIEN SPIRO, a medical device sold in the 1930s by the company Manufrance. I buy all models, complete or incomplete. As an indication, depending on the model, I offer up to 80 euros for a complete SPIRO in good condition, with its box and its notice.

If you find one, think of me ;-) ! Thank you.

I've seen egg timers with that colour 'sand' before....I thought it was coloured salt.

Hi Kirt. You probably want to start a new thread with that question - the people who could answer probably aren't going to find your question here. This thread is regarding Minseeker's sand-filled... thing.

Hello,

This product is a spiroscope manufactured by the French Dr. Jos Jullien (1930). It was intended for people with respiratory problems, to make workouts breathing. Your spiro seems complete : cardboard box, hourglass (25 seconds), bakelite cap and rubber hose with glass mouthpiece. On the jar is embossed "Dr. Spiro Jullien." Height: 12 cm.

Here is a biography (in french) of the inventor : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos_Jullien .

If you want more informations, contact me ljullien (@) hotmail.fr
