Mineral ShowsBethel, Maine Rock and Gem Show

Now that it is way too late, I have flogged my computer into existance long enough to finally post this. For those of you who are in, or near, Maine this weekend, The Oxford County Mineral and Gem Association is holding our 52nd annual show. This year it will be at Crescent Park Elementary School as our regular venue, Telstar High School, is undergoing renovation. Lots of dealers, nice displays, including one from Mt. Mica and one from the future Maine Mineral Museum, a great silent auction, field trips (must be at the show right after opening as space is limited), door prizes and food. Many of the dealers have great Maine minerals. There is a bunch of mining going on here in Oxford County. We still have rock shops and dig your own places. It is a fun show.

Annual Western Maine Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show, 2013

Saturday, July 13, 2013 to Sunday, July 14, 2013

At Crescent Park School this year! 52nd annual show, sponsored by Oxford County Mineral and Gem Association, featuring a wide variety of dealers from Maine and across the United States providing outstanding specimens, jewelry, gem rough, and more.

The show will be at Crescent Park School, Bethel, Maine, this year as Telstar High/Middle School is being renovated. Bethel provides easy access to local campgrounds, motels, and restaurants, as well as scenic beauty of the western Maine lakes and mountains.

Crescent Park School

Saturday, July 13, 9am - 5pm

Sunday, July 14, 10am - 4pm

There are museum quality displays along with an eye-catching florescent mineral booth. There will be demonstrations on gold panning and cabbing (the grinding and polishing of stones for jewelry) throughout the weekend. There are hourly door prizes as well as a grand door prize (valued at $1,200!) which is drawn at the end of the show.

Come take home a piece of Maine

Lots of dealers, nice displays, including one from Mt. Mica and one from the future Maine Mineral Museum . . .

Can you provide any specifics as to what's being displayed?

Thank you Wayne! Don, I am told the Museum display will be in part from an "antique collection that has not been seen by the public in over 50 years," and some of Ray Woodman's wonderful collection. As to Mt. Mica, I will not know until I see it put together. However, I can make a good guess there will be some of the spectacular tourmalines Gary Freeman has been pulling out of there for some years now and probably pink quartz crystals and others. If I get a chance, I will post the contents here. The last Freeman display I saw was at the Maine State Museum in Augusta. He has made a loan to them of 14 or so fantastic specimens. Seeing them is a good reason to go to Augusta. The dinner plate size bi-color beryl is worth the trip by itself.
