Improving Mindat.orgHaapaluoma

16th Jul 2013 08:55 UTCIlkka Mikkola

Topaz is erroneously reported from Haapaluoma pegmatite. The mineral was only bluish albite.

There is not topaz in Haapaluoma mineral list: Hytönen, K. 1999. Suomen Mineraalit. Geologian tutkimuskeskus erillisjulkaisu.

Thanks Ilkka !

Topaz was entered on Haapaluoma locality without any references in the early days of Mindat. It is not marked as "erronously reported" with a comment and reference to this post.

Unfortunately there are several minerals listed on the Haapaluoma locality without any references. THey were entered in the early days of Mindat. We would be very grateful, if you could help to add valid references to those minerals without any.

Hytönen does not cover everything....

Btw, does Lahti (2011) ( Lahti, Seppo I. (2011): Kotkan topaasilouhoksesta ja sen mineraaleista. Kivi-lehti 4. 6-23) discuss the erronously reported topaz from Haapaluoma ? If yes, it should be added as a reference.

I added valid references to most of Haapaluoma minerals. Seppo Lahti doesn´t discuss in those articles about Haapaluoma topaz.

Teertstra, David K et al 1993. Pollucite and its alteration in Finnish pegmatites. Geological Survey of Finland Bulletin 368 39 s. It contains quite new list of Haapaluoma minerals (Only copper and some other minerals were found

later). Topaz is not in that list.

Thanks Ilkka !

Info in Teerstra et al. (1993) has now been entered
