DON BROCARDO AND MUSEUM DON BOSCO

Mina 2015 is dedicated to the memory of Joseph Brocardo (1916-2002), known figure of a priest, teacher and naturalist Turin. He graduated in natural sciences at the University of Turin in 1942 and was appointed priest in 1945. For more than fifty years was a professor of natural sciences at the Liceo Valsalice of Turin and, for many decades, director of the Museum of Natural History "Don Bosco "(founded in 1879 by the Saint and adjoining Institute), which gave a significant contribution, especially in the enrichment of the mineralogical collections. Don Brocardo was also an enthusiastic founder and animator of circles naturalistic youth, in particular the Group Valsalice and Mineralogical Association of cultural volunteer "Friends of the Museum of Natural History Don Bosco."

To remember her figure teacher and mineralogist, a wide selection of mineralogical samples acquired by him over the years for the collections of the Museum of Valsalice it will be exhibited at the 18th edition of Mina, during the 44th Euromineralexpo October 2 to 4 .

BOLCA AND ITS FOSSILS

For the first time in Euromineralexpo Cerato family, owner of the quarry and the Museum of Bolca, exhibit a review of the best fossils present in his rich collection.

The beauty and importance of these samples is recognized worldwide for its variety, the rarity and the perfect preservation of the specimens.

L 'family commitment Cerato and especially Massimo Cerato is to show to a wider audience as possible, wonders of the world fossil Italian, known to professionals but also to visitors. Our commitment, as always, to combine culture and entertainment in the mineralogical and palaeontological, will set up a worthy presentation for this event important paleontological.
On top of the issue, it will be equipped area where Massimo Cerato bring small stone slabs of Pesciara and children who want to challenge themselves in this fascinating research with a hammer will seek small fossils of petrified lagoon Bolca dating back to 50 million years ago and experience the thrill of becoming a day for small paleontologists ...

DEMONSTRATION OF EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY

Alfio Tomaselli will catalyze the attention of visitors with a demonstration on how prehistoric man worked stones and bones for weapons and tools; as well as the colors obtained by pulverizing the various minerals found in nature; and also light the fire using various techniques. He will explain life in a Neolithic camp with a lot of skins stretched on the ground with all the visitors sat in a semicircle around him, and after the half-hour demonstration many people will be fascinated by his words and will remain for the next demonstration.

FOSSILS OF ASTIGIANS CLAY

Once again, the Protected Areas Authority Astigians at the 44th edition of the exhibition market Euromineralexpo, continues with the exhibition of recent acquisitions of the Paleontological Museum of Asti. These consist of specimens of shellfish fossils very special and portions of logs mineralized fossils, all from deposits outcropping along the River Tanaro, near the town of Asti.

A roundup of the most important and rare fossils of these sediments Asti from the Pliocene clay dating back to 5 million years ago includes

corals piritizzati, the bizarre gastropod molluscs such Xenophora with rare species and the exceptional preservation, characteristic for agglomerating on the edge of the other shell shells and the largest gastropod fossil Pliocene the Italian Charonia lampas.

Activity interesting are some examples of vermetids, that is, gastropods with the shell tubular irregular growth which in this case have reached considerable size and uncommon, also these rigid structures, on the bottom of the ancient sea, forming a anchor base for different organisms In fact you can observe in samples exposed of Balanidi (Arthropods Barnacles) that are attached to vermetids and a case of exceptional Echinoid (sea urchin irregular), which still retains the shell, she has found its home in the middle of these seashells.

Outstanding are the three different species of cuttlefish bones with optimal storage, partly piritizzati. These fossils are real rarity for the randomness of the findings, and the difficulty of preserving the bone structure of sepia.

Cuttlefish are cephalopods class that includes octopuses, squid, nautilus and extinct groups like ammonites and belemnites. Cuttlefish have a particular inner shell, the so-called "cuttlefish bone", which presents itself porous and light, concamerata in very thick septa. This particular structure has a functional significance precise, allows the nitrogen gas contained therein to pass safely through the porosity favoring the flotation of the animal, through appropriate pressure adjustments.

One can easily understand the difficulty of the fossilization of structures so delicate and fragile as the cuttlefish bones. In fact, in order to preserve these remains were to be in special conditions, that is, in sedimentary environments deep, very quiet, with low oxygenation of the bottom and with sedimentation rates high enough, so as to be buried quickly by deposits from the water permeating them isolassero. These conditions are those witnessed by the clays of the River Tanaro.
Finally, a section is dedicated to the discovery of fossil wood with various types and conservation make these findings typical of this area. Among these, as well as portions of logs more or less "processed" by the action over the long haul of the river that shaped the forms, stands a sample stored for silicification with formations of blue chalcedony.

This confirms that this stretch of the river is becoming a more important fossil deposit

MINERALS OF THE ALPS AND LOMBARD PREALPS

The Italian Alps gave priceless treasures of beauty in important public and private collections, as well as offering mineralogy a large number of species still exclusive of the territory and of great scientific interest.

Euromineralexpo continues panoramic Alpine mineralogy started in 2014 by illustrating some peculiarities of Piedmont and the Aosta valla.

2015 will therefore be devoted to mineralogical treasures of the Lombardy Alps, ranging from Valmalenco, famous for Demantoids, to get to the mines of the Val Brembana, to the Val Camonica with the Adamello in prominence ... and much more.

Do not miss this chance to visit the 44th Euromineralexpo 2 to 4 October to admire this thematic exhibition.

MINES: THE MIDDLE AGES MODERN AGE

All mineral collectors at least once in their life went into a tunnel of the mine to search for some samples to add to their collection and exploration have definitely seen the work of the miners who had worked there previously.

For Euromineralexpo has recreated a small historical path of the centuries as the mines have been developed and evolved. The various environments they want to understand how the mining and the lives of those working inside was tough and way of extracting changed over the centuries.

There will be a play of mine of the Middle Ages with the work tools and extraction until you get used to the tools and the gallery of the 60s and 70s.

Minerals are served and serve the development of our civilization, without them we would not have anything of what today we own and use, and the setting of the mining history wants to think about how much work, effort and risks involved, and involves extracting all minerals.

THE METEORITE IN STAMP

Shooting stars, according to a poetic tradition,

They would be able to fulfill the dreams of men.

These heartbeats shining, they are daydreaming,

are nothing more than METEORITES, fragments of matter

interplanetary contact with the Earth's atmosphere

catch fire, making it visible to the naked eye.

GOLD FISHING

Given the great success of public collected by the demonstration of alluvial gold panning sifting through the sands of the rivers, this year at the Euromineralexpo will be set up again the diorama that recreates the bed of a river to allow all visitors to try their hand in search of the precious metal with the discovery of real gold flakes.

The demonstration will be carried out by a well-known researcher from Canavese who has devoted his whole life to the discovery of gold-bearing alluvial deposits along the rivers and streams of Piedmont Region. Visitors who stay will be explained about all of the various research techniques, from traditional "batea" the more complex "channel."

PYRAMIDALOGY

For the second time in Euromineralexpo there will be a space dedicated to holistic disciplines, and within the alternative remedy field, will be processed the theme of Pyramidology which plays a particularly important role as part of it. The pyramid in scale with the proportions of the Cheops, has the prerogative to give comfort and rebalance our parts imbalance. These feelings you can try at the Euromineralexpo of Turin, where it will be available for free trials a pyramid of 2 meters in size.
