I once saw someone in a tiny back country town up in Idaho had a Meicke Mine (Nevada) barite specimen sitting in front of their house as a yard rock- it was about an 8 inch rock that was covered with beautiful 1-2 inch (3-6cm) gem-clear perfect yellow crystals. Specimens like that typically would fetch over $100, but here it was just sitting in the yard as decoration. I did talk with the owner about their rock and admired it, and was half tempted to offer them money for it but didn't wanna be rude. (I probably shouldn't say which town it was in).

There are a few people around here who keep large (up to 3 feet long) petrified logs in their yard, which makes an interesting decoration; I don't know if I would bother with a piece that big, or if its even legal to take one if I found it, but they are definitely conversation pieces.

After a day of collecting calcite (rhombohedron), I brought home this 40lb hunk to display right outside my front door. It cleaned up very nicely after dissolving away the outermost surface with muriatic acid.

This is one of the biggest pieces we have been able to load in a vehicle and bring home, weighs about a thousand pounds and is 65x42cm in size. A jasper boulder from SE Arizona.

Here is a lovely garnet ore specimen from garnet mine prospect near Sudbury, Ontario that sits prominently in my front garden. If I were to ever move, this would be one of the few "outside" rocks that would have to move with me.

Another favorite garden rock, this time from the Marmoraton Mine, Marmora, Ontario, Canada. Also will "travel" with me someday.

Here is the Sudbury area garnet specimen, now attached to view.

I have considered calling this "Augen Garnet"

One more. From Lincoln Quarry in Beamsville, Ontario. Ancient ceremony stone or Victorian hitching post? No, survivor of a routine modern blast. Does have a sphalerite crystal on top. Too heavy to relocate again though.
