Mineral PhotographySuper fast stacking with OpenCl rendering

Possibly some of you are aware, others not, of a relatively recent update for Helicon Focus 7 (pro) that enables you to use a graphics card for processing stacks. It speeds up the process MASSIVELY, especially for .raw stacking.

For example, a stack with 150-200 .jpg images at ~6 MB each takes roughly 1-2 minutes on an Intel 4790k and 32 GB memory. Of course this is not slow by any means, but CPU usage would peg at 80-100% and the core temps would rocket to ~80-90 C for the duration, throttling the performance even with the system cooled by water. That's not good for the long term life of a processor or motherboard and I'd given up on stacking .raw... I'm thinking some of you may have similar problems, especially since most CPU's are only cooled by air, or are just generally tired of slow stacking.

So I found a used GTX 1080ti on eBay for a reasonable price, and it completes the same .jpg stacks in under 10 seconds. It's incredible. Stacks with .raw are ~2-3 times faster, and it's now much easier to find the best parameters for a given stack.

I'm interested to hear anyone's opinion on the new update if they've been able to try the OpenCl rendering, or even how long stacks take for you for a given number of images at XX MB. I think this an excellent tool and time saver for anyone that stacks.

It doesn't work with my Nvidia titan, too old. :(   It works on my laptop, and is a huge speed increase.   I strongly suggest moving the files to an SSD before launching Helicon Focus though.
