Field CollectingLousiana and Arkansas collecting

20th Sep 2019 03:05 UTCErin Nation

Hi! My family and I are new to rockhounding. I used to collect rocks as a child back home from the beaches on Michigan, but seem to not know where to look for the best places in Louisiana. I heard there is agate and there was talk about a possible opal mine south of us. I would love to talk with others from the area and possibly get together with others and dig and search.

Also. We go to Arkansas alot and go through tailings at Ron Colemans and we have been to Wegner once. Would love to know if there are places where we can go dig and hunt our own quartz for free without having to pay someone to go through their tailings or dig in their mines. Any help would be amazing!

Thanks so much,
Erin

Since you're willing to go to Arkansas for minerals, you may want to check out Crater of Diamonds State Park near Murfreesboro for a chance to dig and possibly find your own diamonds.
