GeneralAvatars

You can now add/replace your avatar here in the discussions by going to 'My Home Page' and 'Update my details'

Doesn't seem to be working......

5th Dec 2019 21:58 GMTDavid Carter

Nor for me, I’ve resized a photo to the requisite 128x128, but nada!

5th Dec 2019 22:00 GMTJolyon Ralph Founder

Working for me! I've just changed my avatar.

Strange.

You may need to do a hard refresh of the page to clear the old one out of the cache.

5th Dec 2019 22:04 GMTPaul Brandes Manager

Well, the hard refresh worked to see your new avatar Jolyon, but did nothing for mine.
Strange indeed.

5th Dec 2019 22:10 GMTPaul Brandes Manager

Ok, I just resized mine to 128x128 and it went through.
Does the avatar have to be that exact size, or is that the maximum size and it could be smaller (to preserve an aspect ratio, for example)?

6th Dec 2019 05:31 GMTJolyon Ralph Founder

It has to be the exact size specified. I can add some resizing/cropping code later, but I wanted to get something running now.

6th Dec 2019 18:10 GMTPaul Brandes Manager

No worries.
Thanks for adding this!

6th Dec 2019 07:18 GMTKevin Hean

Jolyon's avatar only changed to his new one after I had run CCleaner ( a program that clears all the Temp, Cache, and Cookies etc)

6th Dec 2019 07:37 GMTJolyon Ralph Founder

You don't need to do that. A hard refresh (usually shift + clicking the refresh button) will do the trick.

6th Dec 2019 15:24 GMTDavid Carter

I’ve uploaded an avatar (128x128 JPEG) which shows up on the ‘update my details’ page, but it doesn’t show up on any of my discussion entries for some reason despite doing a hard refresh (and doing that visibly refreshes all the other icons with photos). Am I doing something wrong, any ideas?

6th Dec 2019 15:53 GMTJean-Yves Lamoureux

Just uploaded an avatar, hoping it'll work !  Will see when this message is posted...

6th Dec 2019 15:55 GMTJean-Yves Lamoureux

Tried a hard refresh...

6th Dec 2019 15:55 GMTJean-Yves Lamoureux

Still not visible...

Sigh.

6th Dec 2019 16:32 GMTUwe Kolitsch Manager

Try logging out and logging in again?

6th Dec 2019 17:21 GMTDavid Carter

Logged in/logged out on both a PC and an iPad Mini, hard refreshed both, checked and confirmed size of JPEG avatar is 128x128, but sadly still no sign of the avatar icon appearing on the discussion boards?

6th Dec 2019 16:48 GMTAntonio Borrelli Expert

I did a refresh and it worked for me.

8th Dec 2019 18:39 GMTRui Nunes Expert

I have created a jpeg image 128x128 pixels with photoshop and with paint, cleaned the cash and refresh the page and still nothing. Thank you.

8th Dec 2019 19:12 GMTUwe Kolitsch Manager

I wonder what happens if 129x129 pixels are tried.

8th Dec 2019 19:54 GMTRui Nunes Expert

Tried 129x129 and all as before, nothing happens

8th Dec 2019 20:04 GMTJolyon Ralph Founder

Ok! if the avatars are *still* not working for you then you're uploading them wrong.

Then need to be a JPEG file, 128 x 128 (NOT 129!) pixels.

8th Dec 2019 20:52 GMTRui Nunes Expert

It was only an attempt... Thks

8th Dec 2019 20:51 GMTMichel Gadoury

I confirm that it worked for me. But be sure to have a 128 x 128 pixels image.

9th Dec 2019 17:26 GMTDonald B Peck Expert

Were the avatars previously used removed in the transition to the new format?   I had one, but  it disappeared.

9th Dec 2019 17:33 GMTJolyon Ralph Founder

If they were JPEG format then yes, if they were in another format (eg GIF) then no.

9th Dec 2019 19:19 GMTPeter Nancarrow Expert

Avatar test:
Mine is OK

9th Dec 2019 17:33 GMTGregg Little

Worked for me, I just had to google how to resize an image in the MS operating system. Just a bit of a Luddite (not a mineral) here.
