Hey there! I purchased this big guy for $270 yesterday and wanted to know that:

1. Is this jade or Jadeite

2. Where it’s from

3. What quality is this?

It weighs 6.2 pounds, and the color seems nice.

Julie,

Sad to say, it's a long way from self-evident that what you have is jade (jadeite or nephrite). But you didn't pay a jade price for it so don't worry too much if you like the appearance and it fits with something you want to do with it. OTOH, if it matters to you to know, then you need, first and foremost, a completely reliable SG determination (or determinations). You also need a good hardness test and microscopic examination by someone experienced in assessing jade. It's going to take a much braver (more rash?) person than me to offer answers to your questions from those pictures.

"2. Where it’s from"

Well, if the seller couldn't tell you, you can only guess.

Aventurine is a possibility. Polished pieces of aventurine like this (usually from India) are readily available at some of the Tucson Shows.

The other bit of advice - if you really don't know what it is, no matter what the dealer says (unless it's a very reputable one), and no matter how "good" the price is, don't buy it. Can't imagine a chunk of jade of that apparent quality going for such a low price. My thoughts.

I'm more just curious, but why would you ask AFTER purchasing the item? If you are satisfied, you may not want to ask about the item, may give you buyers remorse! Just my thoughts...

I can't answer you question however, I don't work with jade... Its a nice hunk of whatever it is!! Good color! But I can tell you the locality will be very, very difficult to pin down. All you will get are guesses when it comes to rocks like that.

The only thing that I know about jade is that I don't know much about jade! However, I don't recall ever seeing jade that had pockets in it. Is there a chance that you could post a close-up photo or two of the side with the pockets?

Well I have it on hold with a small payment plan, also I don’t care that much, I still love the color of it, thanks again!!

As long as you love it that's all that matters. But it's probably not jade and possibly, as Jim says, aventurine from India.

Pretty sure its Onyx, I purchased some at the Tucson show this year

That chimes a bell with me Ryan. It could very well be onyx - and a nice big piece too.
