Field CollectingCollectors and Collecting in Norway

6th Jan 2020 15:31 GMTNeil Cavanagh

My wife and I are planning on travelling to Norway in July- August time frame this year.  We are interested in reaching out to local collectors forcollecting locations and possible field trips and swapping.  We are also trying to find out about the NAGS swap and meet in July and whether we have to join in order to attend.

Hello Neil,

I am located in the south of Norway, more precisely in the Evje-Iveland pegmatite district.

I am employed at the local geological museum, the Evje og Hornnes geomuseum Fennefoss .

Even though the golden days of mineral collecting are history, there should be some possibilities for collecting.

Let me know if Evje is on your route and if you are interested in more information.

Kind regards,

Ronald Werner

We can certainly put Evje on our itinerary.  We would probbaly have added it because of the mineral museum anyway.  We are just starting to lay out our trip and have heard from several others in Norway.  We would like to attend the NAGS meeting and are trying to schedule that into our trip.  We plan on arriving in Oslo and travelling south then west and north.  We will probably not go too far north as we tend to like to stop and enjoy the scenery.  Would also love to collect minerals and meet with other collectors.  We have material that we can bring to swap and could provide info.  Although collecting since 1970 I still have a lot to learn.  My e-mail is neilcav@earthlink.net  .  We are expecting to spend about 3 weeks in Norway.  Thank you for any help you can provide.  We will probably have limited tools with us (2 geological hammers and a few chisels and portable UV lights.)

Hi Niel, send me an email to andresen_p at hotmail.com and I'll try to respond - I can be very slow... But I'm an eager field collector with speciality in the Larvik Plutonic Complex, especially the Tvedalen area. I might be on holyday myself when you are here but have probably some information about what is going on in my area. The Eidsfoss show
will be from 17. to 19. July and if you search for "Steintreffet i Eidsfoss" on Facebook you will find their page.

If I'm at home I have an enormous amount of spare rock to swap - mostly from the Tvedalen area, but also a lot of other minerals - I'm a hardcore systematic collector ;-).

The NAGS show called "Steintreffet" has their official website here:
The info on the 2020 show has not yet been published on their site thoutgh, but I heard that they will do that soon.

We went on to the webpage a few days ago and sent an email to Lillian Larsen who had her email listed as the contact person.  We have not heard back from her and hope our email did not end up in her spam box.  We will check the website again in the near future for any updates.  If you know of any collectors in the southern area of Norway who might help us in finding collectings sites, or even to see local specimens that would be appreciatred.  We have just started planning our trip and are pretty flexible.  We anticipate being in Norawy about 3 weeks in July/August time frame.  My email is neilcav@earthlink.net.   Thank you.
