GeneralArtifact of some sort? Any ideas?

A stone I found looks like some type of artifact to be smooth and shaped like that. Any ideas.

I have found similarly shaped stones, smooth and gracefully curved, on a beach in southern Maine that I believe are worn pieces of folded metamorphic rock.  I don't think I kept one to photograph.  In those cases the layered texture of the rock follows the curve, suggesting that it separated along weaker planes in the rock as it weathered and was further smoothed by wave action in the surf.  I'm sure the ones I found are not human-made.

I can't make out a directional texture in your specimen; a more sharply focused photo might help.
