When adding some new images to my photos today - My spouse thought it appropriate that include a favorite from her small collection in the upload.  Here it is: Rare Louisiana Opal egg custom carved for Polly Prior. Opal in sandstone, 5.centimeters, from the Hidden Fire Opal mine, Vernon Parish, Louisiana. Currently in Polly Prior collection, Jeff Scovil photo. Pictured in supplement to The Mineralogical Record, July-August 2015.
Considering her patient understanding of my mineral obsession - here is one of her great purchases.

Nice one Hal!  I remember seeing these opal specimens for a few years at several shows in the Midwest US several years ago, but it's been quite a while since I've seen any.

Scovil was our house guest when he did the supplement photos for Iowa.  The Opal was a real challenge to photo - any minor change in lighting or angles gave a significantly different result.
