Improving Mindat.orgMineral Species Missing from Mindat

20th Feb 2007 03:17 UTCSteve Hardinger 🌟 Expert

While researching a completely unrelated subject, I ran across a reference to a mineral not listed on Mindat. I hope the Mindat Maintenance Minions will rectify this quickly.

The reference is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upsidaisium

1) Wikipedia is not reliable, as anyone can change it.

2) The categories the page is located in on wikipedia is FICTIONAL MATERIALS.

Holy Smoke! I regret to inform you that the demise of Ponsonby Britt, OBE has made it impossible to expand the Mindat database to include upsidaisium. Ponsonby was Mindat's "Minion-in-Chief" for the addition of exotic species. I am sure that his many friends in the mineralogical community mourn his untimely end, the tragic result of being caught in a mass lemming migration to the sea while he was studying the Fjords and Chjevies of northern Norway. (Readers please note that early rumors of the involvement of Moon Mice in Britt's death were unfounded.)

A fund has been set up to erect an appropriate monument to Ponsonby. Mindat readers can send their checks to R. J. Squirrel, PO Box 23, Frostbite Falls, Minnesota. Please note that donations can only be made in Moosylvanian currency. The monument will be erected on the shore of Veronica Lake.

Excuse the clumsy fingers...

That's "Hoky Smoke".

Yup - ought to be included. Right along side of "trilithium." :~}

(David: I think you missed Steve's tongue stuffed firmly in his cheek.)
