GeneralKeith Corrie RIP

8th Jul 2017 09:19 UTCRoy Starkey 🌟 Manager

I have just heard that sadly Keith Corrie passed away on Tuesday 4th July. He had been taken ill in March, and thought he had a chest infection. Later diagnosis in hospital identified that this was lung cancer. His death was sudden and completely unexpected.

I have spoken to his wife Lyn and she has asked me to let the mineral world know that Keith wanted no fuss, no flowers, no obituary, and a simple, completely private family funeral. If people would like to make a donation to cancer research, that would be appreciated.

Keith and Lyn were popular figures at UK mineral shows for many years, their hallmark being beautifully presented, generally brightly coloured and aesthetic miniatures. Keith was also instrumental in helping the late Paul Lowe to source his range of LED lighting for display cabinets, and did much of the technical assessment and "leg work" for that project.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with Lyn and the family at this sad time

Roy Starkey

p.s. I cannot immediately find a photo of Keith in my collection, but you can see one here, courtesy of Crystal Classics, with Lyn and Keith on the right of the photo, doing what Keith enjoyed best - looking at pretty minerals.

I am verry sorry to hear the loss of Keith. I remember Keith and his wife Lyn because since the early nineties they visited regurally mineral shows here in Belgium to. Keith had a keen eye for aestethics specimens, better than most average collectors had at that time. I also remember that Keith and Lyn always where together at the shows, and they could share their passion!

My sincere condolences to his wife Lyn.

Best regards, Mario Pauwels

David Green has just sent the nice photo below of him and Keith collecting baryte on the coast near Sidmouth, a locality which Keith was very fond of.

Re my previous post, if you click on the image it will orientate itself correctly, I don't know how to make it sit in "portrait" fashion in the message.

By the way, for those of you not familiar with the locality - this is it https://www.mindat.org/loc-1552.html

Cheers

Ive only just found this out - so sorry to hear this.

i always enjoyed catching up with Keith and Lyn at the shows - particularly Oxford, where their beautifully displayed cabinets and pedestal mounted minerals were always my first port of call!

It was Keith who introduced me to mounting my specimens on acryllic blocks and patiently explaining how to 'properly' apply the clear labels to the front. Both Lyn and Keith were always happy to share their knowledge and their passion.

my heartfelt condolensces to Lyn and their family and friends. Keith will be missed.
