GeneralMarshallsussmanite is now Schizolite

5th Jul 2018 08:20 UTCJolyon Ralph Founder

One announcement hidden in the recent IMA lists may have been overlooked by collectors, but the mineral "marshallsussmanite" has been renamed to schizolite by the IMA.

The reasoning for this is that the name schizolite has historical precedence, and was first used for a new mineral found in Greenland in 1900 which is identical to marshallsussmanite, therefore the historical name takes precedence.

More information is available on the schizolite page on mindat.

Hello Jolyon,

Do you have the reference (IMA Newsletter?) for this change?

Regards,

Bruce
