Improving Mindat.orgLIkely not thorianite - Easton, PA

29th Apr 2016 17:21 UTCJeff Weissman Expert

This mineral, http://www.mindat.org/photo-586824.html, is most likely a mixture of dark brown wolsendorfite, yellow thorogummite, plus maybe some additional secondary uranium minerals, perhaps weeksite? See the article by Arthur Montgomery in Am. Min. vol. 42 p. 804. Verified thorianite at the locality is extremely rare, almost all have been found to be Th-enriched uraninite, and like this one, heavily altered.
