Improving Mindat.orgSearching for Cordillera...

1st Nov 2016 00:02 UTCSteve Sorrell Expert

If you search for Cordillera expecting to get the Cordillera Mine, New South Wales (http://www.mindat.org/loc-77.html), you only get:

Definition of cordillera

i. A comprehensive term for an extensive series or broad assemblage of more or less parallel ranges, systems, and chains of mountains, the component parts having various trends but the mass itself having one general direction; esp. the great mountain region of western North America from the eastern face of the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, or the parallel chains of the Andes in South America; a mountain province.

and not the locality.

Hi Steve

When I search for Cordillera I get the mine in NSW as expected

So not sure why you got that entry.

Ah ..... you probably searched in the search box at the top of the Mindat page (which gives the definition) instead of the locality search at the bottom of the page !!

Cheers

Keith

You can also use the advanced search button to do a locality specific search (although the one on the bottom of each page requires one less mouse click).

Steve

Either search in the location box at the bottom, or, search for Cordillera Mine

I rarely use the top search field for locations, as it seldom gives the results i want, the bottom bar is far superior.
