Improving Mindat.orgGjerdingen, Norway, columbite?

14th Dec 2016 12:58 UTCOT. Ljøstad Expert

Has the specimen http://www.mindat.org/photo-58050.html been analyzed? It looks very different from the columbite specimens I have got from the Gjerdingen spesialist Jan Haug.

Possibly brookite?

14th Dec 2016 23:38 UTCOT. Ljøstad Expert

If I had found such a crystal in the rocks I have collected from the locality I would agree with Uwe, brookite.

I uploaded images of a specimen of brookite that I received from Peter Andresen, http://www.mindat.org/photo-790994.html, Some of the crystals in my sample may be more/less the same as the specimen in question above.

Jeff, after looking at your photo I would say that at least some of the black crystals are anatase.

OT - thanks, I will modify the caption accordingly

16th Dec 2016 16:27 UTCPeter Andresen Expert

Hmm, I've always thought the anatases are pale bluish to bluish tabular... So, are there any brookite on Jeffs photo? If there isn't I have to find a new one for you Jeff! :-)

OT you got to take some more photos of the different Gjerdingen minerals and upload!

16th Dec 2016 21:07 UTCOT. Ljøstad Expert

I will.

The specimen was not analyzed, and is now deleted on the request of the uploader.
