Improving Mindat.orgBismuth

It seems to be bismuth and it seems to be from Hüttenberg. I know many specimen from there; we have one with about 7kg almost pure bismuth in siderite. I just wondered what happened to this one and think it was treated in two ways which should be mentioned in the description.

It was cut and it was heavy etched. Etching siderite you need at least HCl (strong or warm). I wouldn`t have done it but ok tastes are different.

But it should be mentioned somewhere!

I agree with Christian.

Yes Christian, it looks to me also as etched out from siderite.

ditto

Thanks for the info. It was purchased and no mention of any treatment was provided. I will update the description.

To be honest I'd rather have a non-treated sample...

Done!

I assume the non-treated samples look more like:

Yes these are untreated bismuth specimen.

It was very common stuff around 1985, my guess would be several hundred kg were found in that time.

Howerver, an interessting specimen. The three-dimensional assignment of bismuth is better visible.
