Improving Mindat.orgFinchite from the Pandora mine, La Sal, San Juan Co., Utah

14th Oct 2018 17:57 UTCBrent Thorne Expert

I received information yesterday that the francevillite, found at the Pandora mine in Utah, contains strontium instead of barium. So all the photographs of specimens of francevillite on the Pandora Mine page, need to be changed to finchite. Francevillite has not been confirmed as occuring at the Pandora mine. Personal communication from Mark Rushton who got the information from Joe Marty.

Some specimens labeled francevillite from the Pandora mine are finchite, but not all.. In general, finchite occurs most commonly with pandoraite-Ca and Ba, and appears more milky/turbid yellow than francevillite, but this is not always the case. You must have your specimen tested by EDS or microprobe before changing anything to finchite..

Travis, thank-you for the clarification.
