Name:
Named by Jirí Sejkora, Jakub Plášil, František Veselovský, Ivana Císarová, and Jan Hloušek in 2011 in honor of Petr Ondruš (1960 - ) mineralogist with the Czech Geological Survey, Prague, Czech Republic, for his contribution to the Jáchymov ore district, including the description of seven new minerals.
Previously ondrušite had the preliminary name "pseudo-lindackerite" (J. Czech Geol. Soc. 42(4) (1997) 77-107, specifically p. 96; Eur. J. Mineral. 15 (2003) 1035–1042).
