Named in 1989 by Richard A. Eggleton and Paul M. Ashley in honor of Dr. Keith Norrish (9 July 1924, Kojonup, Western Australia - ), geologist with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Division of Soils, Adelaide, in recognition of his contribution to layer-silicate research. He pioneered the use of wavelength- dispersive X-ray spectrometry (XRF) for the analysis of minerals.
