Named in honor of Thomas Sterry Hunt (1826-1892), chemist and a pioneer of Canadian mineralogy. Hunt was the first chemist and later mineralogist on the staff of the Geological Survey of Canada, and the coauthor of Geology of Canada (1863).
Black, metallic rod-like crystals, also massive.

Closely related to parasterryite.
The Ag analogue of ciriottiite.
