Name:
For Athanasius Kircher (1602–1680), a German Jesuit scholar who published around 40 works, some of which dealt with magnetism, geology, mineralogy, and volcanology. Athanasius Kircher was in Rome from 1635 and was the founder of the museum of the Collegium Romanum in 1651, hereafter named the Museum Kircherianum. It contained collections of Roman, Etruscan, and Egyptian antiquities including mummies and large collections of natural objects such as minerals and precious stones.
