Name:
First described, without CNMMN approval as "Ferdisilicite" (FeSi2), the first described member of the Fe–Si alloy mineral series by Gevork’yan (1969). Redefined as a new mineral, revalidated with the new name linzhiite with a CNMNC approval (IMA 2010-011). Linzhiite is named for the Linzhi Prefecture, which is situated close to the type locality.
Originally reported as "ferdisilicite" from Poltava series, Zachativsk station, Donets (Donetsk) region, Donets'k Oblast' (Donetsk Oblast'), Ukraine.

One of many natural Fe-Si phases; beside the approved species (listed below) you may want to compare Unnamed (Fe silicide I), Unnamed (Fe silicide II) and UM2000-60-Si:Fe.
