for Dr. James Wilson, who discovered it, by T.S. Hunt as a tribute to a knowledgeable and "zealous student of the mineralogy of the district." The first reported locality was the Boyce Mine, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.

Described as an Mn-bearing "sericite" or muscovite pseudomorph after scapolite. Hey lists it as an aluminosilicate of Mg and K.
