Obertiite is a obertiite root name amphibole in the WO2- dominant amphibole group with Mg as the dominant element in the C2+ position and Al as the dominant element in the C3+ position.
Name:
The mineral originally named obertiite (IMA 1998-046) was re-named ferri-obertiite in 2012 to align the use of pre-fixes in the obertiite root name minerals with the general amphibole nomenclature rules. Re-investigation of the holotype material in 2014 revealed that Mn3+ > Fe3+, hence the mineral was renamed to mangani-obertiite.

Obertiite with its current definition is considered a hypothetical mineral, and should not be confused with the obertiite root-name group, which is a group name used on Mindat for all obertiite minerals.
