About Hollandite SupergroupHide

M3+ = Mn, Fe, Cr, V;
M2+ = Fe ·
The hollandite supergroup comprises several Mn(IV) and Ti oxides with a common, tetragonal or pseudo-tetragonal crystal-structure type containing tunnels.
It is divided into two groups depending on the dominant tetravalent cation in the octahedral tunnel walls: the coronadite group (M4+ = Mn), and the priderite group (M4+ = Ti).

The nomenclature was revised by Biagioni et al. (2013) (IMA 11-F).


Lingunite is a high-pressure silicate (ideally NaAlSi3O8, i.e. with a formula identical to that of albite) with a hollandite-type structure. The presently unnamed K-analogue is KAlSi3O8-hollandite.
