Name:
Named in 1932 by Stanislas Émile Nicolet in honor of Louis Claude Duparc [February 13, 1866 Carouge (near Geneva), Switzerland - October 20, 1932 Geneva, Switzerland], professor of mineralogy, petrography, geology, paleontology, and analytical chemistry at the University of Geneva. Duparc was a prolific scientist and it may be noted that his contributions include improving the universal stage for optical mineralogy and in the study of the optical properties of plagioclase. as a field researcher he made extensive visits to the platinum producing districts of the Ural Mountains. He also explored for mining ventures in Ethiopia (Abyssinia), Madagascar, Morocco, and Romania.
