About Humite seriesHide

Mg2nSinO4n•Mg(OH,F)2
n=1,2,3,4
Member of:
The humite series constitutes a polysomatic series of minerals with the general formula Mg2nSinO4n•Mg(OH,F)2 for n = 1, 2, 3, 4, where n designates the number of olivine layers between each norbergite Mg(OH,F)2 layer in the structure. There is very little chemical substitution in the olivine modules in the structure, but the exchange Mg(OH)2 <->TiO2 can be pronounced in clinohumites. For some values of n, both (OH) and F dominant species has been identified.

Note: There is no official IMA nomenclature for the humite group yet.
