Named for the type locality, but also honors the mining engineer Vladimir Vasilyevich Vorontsov (1842 – after 1908), superintendent of the Bogoslovskiy mining district. Pronounced vo-ron-tso-vait.
Isostructural with:
The Tl analogue of galkhaite and Hg analogue of ferrovorontsovite. Chemically related to routhierite.
