About Iron oxideHide

In petrological terms, "Iron oxides" refers usually to the two main iron oxide minerals hematite and magnetite and, to a lesser extent, the rarer oxide mineral maghemite.

Careless descriptions may use the term "iron oxide" to describe iron hydroxides such as goethite and other "limonite" type minerals. This should be avoided.
