About SpodosolHide

Also called podzol or podosol.

This is a soil type commonly found in coniferous or boreal forests. The name comes from a russian term (подзо́листая по́чва, or podzolistaya pochva or 'under-ashed soil') due to the experience in Russia of farmers ploughing up an apparent under-layer of ash when ploughing the soil for the first time.

It must have spodic horizon within 2 m of soil surface and without andic properties; Usually have albic horizon; High in Fe, Al oxides and humus accumulation; Acidic soils;
