Formula:
Ce4O5F2
may also be fiven as (Ce,Nd,Ca,La,Th,Sm,Pr)4O5F2
Co-described with UM1994-05-F:OREE and 'Unnamed (Lanthanum Oxyfluoride)'. Apparently the first natural cerium oxyhalide.
As intimately intergrown aggregates (of the two), up to 200 microns in diameter, in quartz and zinnwaldite interstices, in a drill core.
Electron microprobe wt.% data (one of 4 analyses): ThO2 3.91, La2O3 3.66, Ce2O3 75.93, Pr2O3 1.56, Nd2O3, 6.55, Sm2O3 2.13, Dy2O3 0.10, Y2O3 0.49, CaO 2.02, F 6.22, 0~F 2.62, total 99.95. This corresponds to the empirical formula of (Ce0.769Nd0.065Ca0.060La0.037Th0.025Sm0.020Pr0.016Y0.007Dy0.001)O1.21F0.554 (based on Σ(cations)=1).
The PXRD pattern, though composite, bears 3.160(100), 2.739(40), 1.934(50), 1.649(40) and four weaker reflections attributable to fluorite-type cubic cell (a=5.470(8)). Hexanogal or tetragonal superstructure is not discuded.
