Chemically related to atokite and palarstanide, paolovite, taimyrite, UM1970-06-E:CuPdPtSn, and some other unnamed stannide species. Co-desribed with UM1995-39-Se:Pd.

Grains, up to 15x 30 microns in size. Has a synthetic analogue.

Both phases are associated with sulfides (mainly pyrite and pyrrhotite) from Precambrian carbonaceous black shales.
