Named in 1967 by František Novák, Pavel Pavondra, and Jiňí Vtělenský in honor of Antonín Bukovský (1865–1950), Professor at the secondary school of Kutná Hora, Czech Republic, who first analyzed the mineral.
Chemically related to zýkaite.
