DescriptionThe Great North Museum’s mineral collection has its origins in the early 19th century, the nucleus of which was collected by William Hutton (1797-1860). Hutton was also instrumental in acquiring for the museum the collection of about 1,000 Russian minerals donated by Tsar Nicholas I in 1838.
