Named for its relationship to florencite-(Ce), with the "-(Nd)" suffix in allusion to neodymium being the dominant REE in the composition.

The root florencite, is named in honor Dr. William Florence (1864-1942), who made a preliminary chemical examination of florencite-(Ce).
