In allusion to its composition, being the Yb-analogue of the older species hingganite-(Y).
The Yb analogue of hingganite-(Y), hingganite-(Ce), and hingganite-(Nd). One of a very few Yb-dominant approved minerals, the others being keiviite-(Yb), samarskite-(Yb), xenotime-(Yb) and the (rather not approved) hellandite-(Yb). Compare also ytterbium.

Geological Setting of Type Material:
Found on plumbomicrolite and in violet fluorite in amazonite pegmatites. It formed by very late-stage replacement reactions.
